We had our first official "Prenatal Appointment" on Monday. The babies are the same size, measuring 4.38cm from crown to rump.
We saw "Baby A" first (the bottom picture) - he/she was laying all comfy and was most likely sleeping. We got to see the little flicker, which was it's heart beat. It's arms and hands are folded over it's face.
Second was "Baby B" (the top picture) - he/she was awake and moving around! At first, it was rolling it's hands around like when you put hand lotion on. Then it got the hiccups and we saw the perfect rhythmic moving of it's entire body as the hiccups came. It was the boppin' around in there, almost dancing!
They are both the perfect size for how "old" they are... 11 weeks and 3 days on Monday. They are basically laying shoulder to shoulder right now with Baby A closest to his/her eventual "exit door".
We have another appointment in a month at which time we will start having our ultrasounds done from there on out at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, which is the best hospital around for multiple births. We will be seen by the Perinatalogist - a specialist with multiples and how to determine risks through high-tech ultrasounds. We are planning that the actual birth will take place at Spectrum in Grand Rapids, as this is a one stop shop for all of the care we may need. They have an extensive NICU for babies and are the most experienced with multiple births.
We continue to pray for healthy, full-term babies, and that we will be directed by God in order to receive the best care possible. There are lots of decisions to be made - all about something that is brand new to both of us. Such an odd situation to be in! At each appointment they tell us what we have to have decided on by the next appointment. They are even already asking me about which pediatrician we will be taking the babies to! My goodness! They are the size of a fig right now - and I have to decide on a doctor for them already?
